It was never about how often you shower. It is one compound: nonenal.
Somewhere in your late thirties or forties, the natural oils on your skin begin to oxidize into nonenal. That is the stale note people pick up on, and it is not a hygiene issue.
Nonenal is oily, so water alone barely touches it. Regular soap washes off sweat and leaves nonenal behind on the skin. That is why it is back by lunchtime even on days you showered twice.
You go nose-blind to it fast. Everyone else keeps noticing.
Why the cheap bars do not work

The fruit only comes once a year.
Kakishibu comes from unripe persimmons picked in a short window each autumn. That harvest sets how much tannin exists for the year, which is why we pour in small batches instead of mass runs, and why some batches sell out.
A small factory and a lot of waiting.
The pressed fruit is left to ferment for months, since that is what makes the tannin strong enough to matter. A small family factory then folds it into a base of olive oil, coconut oil and glycerin, so the smell lifts but your skin does not feel tight.
Then the copycats arrived.
Once persimmon soap took off, marketplaces filled with orange bars that smell of persimmon and do little else. Fermentation cannot be faked or rushed. We do it the slow way because that is the only way it works.
